The SIFPSA website was launched on February 12, 2001 by Mr. A. R. Nanda, Secretary, Family Welfare, Govt. of India at a glittering function at India International Centre, New Delhi.
Representatives from Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, USAID, Govt. of UP, other donors, officials from Cooperating Agencies and various people working in the RCH sector and SIFPSA staff applauded as Mr. Nanda clicked to bring the website on screen. He expressed happiness at the fact that the innovative work being done by SIFPSA would get disseminated more widely. Mr. Sujit Banerjee, Principal Secretary, Medical, Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of UP commended SIFPSA for developing an interactive website in a most attractive format.
He also felt that by showcasing government schemes and the UP Population Policy, along with details of its own activities, SIFPSA had done a yeoman service to all those interested in the RCH programme in UP. Dr. Victor Barbiero, Director, Population, Health & Nutrition, USAID felt that "the SIFPSA website is a terrific addition to the great work SIFPSA is doing". Mr. Gautam Basu, Joint Secretary, RCH, Govt. of India also complimented SIFPSA on the timely launch of its website. Dr. G. Narayana, Director, The POLICY Project, which has partnered SIFPSA in the development of the website, proposed a vote of thanks.
Ms. Aradhana Johri, Executive Director, SIFPSA and Mr. J. S. Deepak, Consultant, The POLICY Project, walked the gathering through various sections of the website and demonstrated its interactive features. The parts on organization structure, objectives, strategies, performance, key achievements and allocations of SIFPSA were presented.
The site includes details on various SIFPSA activities like private and public sector projects, district action plans, marketing and communication. The TV spots used by SIFPSA as part of its successful multimedia campaign are accessible from the website. Details of the TT campaign implemented in the state, the RCH camp strategy and the innovative use of private lady medical officers at government facilities are also available. One of the most remarkable features of the website is its large variety of state and district maps. Maps of all 39 SIFPSA districts with different interventions can be seen by clicking on a particular district. Alternatively, sectorwise interventions can be seen on maps of UP.
The website features all SIFPSA publications, its newsletters, various books and journals, survey reports and studies, and SIFPSA news. Visitors to the website can take part in an opinion poll on a subject of current interest and leave their comments in the visitors' book. For those who want to know more, the website has a hyperlink to the USAID website, which would help accessing a host of information related to Population, Health and Nutrition
