To reduce the infant mortality rate
from 85 in 1997 to 73 in 2006, to 67 in 2011 and to 61
in 2016 and to reduce under-five mortality from 125 in
1997 to 105 in 2006, to 94 in 2011 and to below 84 in
2016 with the following specific objectives:
Increase
complete immunization of children from 42 percent
in 1997 to 69 percent in 2006, to 85 percent in
2011, and to all children in 2016
Increase the use of
oral rehydration salts or home-made solutions among
those children suffering from diarrhoea from 36
percent in 1997 to 62 percent in 2006, to 76 percent
in 2011, and to 90 percent in 2016
Eliminate
severe malnutrition among children by 2011
Reduce
mild and moderate anaemia among children from 65
percent in 1997, to 44 percent in 2006, to 32 percent
in 2011 and to 20 percent in 2016
Reduce the incidence
rate of acute respiratory infections (ARIs) among
children by early identification of children with
ARIs and by strengthening services at referral points
Ensure that 50 percent
of all children receive all required doses of vitamin
A by 2006 and 90 percent by 2016
