SIFPSA
has initiated an innovative scheme of hiring women
medical officers to serve at block PHCs and at CHCs.
CMOs can contract practising medical graduates who
are paid on a visit basis. Postgraduate (in Obstetrics
& Gynaecology) women doctors get a higher stipend
than the MBBS doctors. Where no allopathic doctor
is available, even women practitioners of the Indigenous
System of Medicine can be hired. The women medical
officers provide services from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
SIFPSA funds upto two visits a week at the CHCs
and one at the block PHCs in 15 districts. 156 Women
medical officers have been contracted under this
scheme throughout UP. More than 40,461 visits have
been made by women medical officers who have counselled
629,766 clients. This innovative scheme of SIFPSA,
which is an example of a unique public and private
sector partnership, has won wide acclaim and is
being adopted by other donor funded projects as
well. |
