Improving Clinical RCH Services through ASHA
 
Background

The projects were awarded in the year 2006 and continued upto 2008-09 in 12 districts across the state.

Major Components of the Project

This project will incorporate a number of new strategies designed to:

Increase access to clinical methods and respond to the quality RCH services of the community by organizing monthly health camps in the villages at fixed sites.
Further utilize the available private and public infrastructure, i.e. communication channels, outreach sites, extension programme, women’s leadership, to build a sustainable village-based family welfare programme
To increase use of reproductive health and family planning services by improving demand for RCH products and access to quality reproductive health services including increases of awareness level on RCH among adolescents.

Projects were expected to increase the level of awareness for various health issues and uptake of services available through public health system. The project was in line with the objectives and processes envisaged for improvement in RCH services under NRHM. Following were the broad features of the project that are in line with the NRHM.

ASHA will work as a grassroot volunteer of the project who is introduced under NRHM to act as a link between the community and the health system.
Promotion of institutional deliveries through various IEC activities as envisaged under Janani Suraksha Yojna (JSY).
The awareness generation regarding various health components and shall form part of group meetings and counselling clients by ASHA.
Folk performances as part of the IEC activities, all the components regarding family health will be covered as per NRHM guidelines so that the community shall be made aware about the activities and programmes under NRHM.
The project will be implemented with the support of the government health system. Services regarding Immunisation, free contraceptive supply, ANC etc will be done in coordination with the concerned PHC/CHC.
